Very illuminating, thanks. Also helps explain why newer vehicles are so expensive.

This is really valuable reporting, Phoebe. It's becoming clearer why Trump wants to annex Canada and Greenland -- for their rare earth minerals, leaving us conceivably less dependent on China.

Hard pass for me.

I wake up to this!!! Is there an action “He’s” taken that “he” has any knowledge of the repercussions?

Your story is enlightening and scary, and the subject matter is threatening to the auto industry which directly hurts us.

Thanks for your work. Now we know “the rest of the story “! Nothing like being educated, first thing, on a EASSIDE morning!

Gregg

Great article… wondering when Trump/Fox administration will understand that the automotive industry is ‘global’ and on-shoring all parts supply is impossible.

Thanks for this. A critical - and rare! - glimpse into the knock on effects of capricious policy making.

A must read.

I’ve been closely following this auto supply chain issue, and honestly, the idea that rare earth elements are now a geopolitical chess piece is wild! We all remember how the pandemic messed with car deliveries, but this feels scarier because China’s dominance in these materials could basically shut down production lines. Have you experienced similar delays or price hikes lately? See this, it might help. https://www.chinaelectron.com

Speaking in code - seems to me we are trying to figure out how to deal with foolish decisions coming from the White House without saying there’s a fool in the White House.
