What a neat, no BS story. I feel the same as any Michigander knows, the Canadians are our friends and any idiot politician who says otherwise is an ...idiot!

Embarrassing, needless attacks on an old friend.

How could any country trust any trade agreement under this administration?

Thank you for writing this Phoebe. I'm coming out of a state of shocked speechlessness at the utter chaos and devastation Trump and his currently silently consenting Republican constituency is wrecking on our international relationships including with our neighbor Canada. I hope all the people he is rising such rage in focus it on standing up to this tyrant and his minions. And that we all remember that our values count more than ever. Let's do everything we can to strengthen our deeply held values and focus on what each of us can do to clean up this mess with open dialogue and critical thinking. And as I remind myself as a parent it never helps to get down on the floor and pound our fists with a three year old having a tantrum.

Phoebe, such a rightfully written essay article. You probably are aware that many peeps from the eastside of Detroit and the Grosse Pointe's either own, or have owned little cottages, just north of Port Huron along the Lake Huron shoreline in the summer getaway town of Grand Bend Interior.

I can remember, vividly, way back when I was a Denby HS student in the earlier 70's, and one of our dear friends invited a group of us up to visit his parents cottage in this little tourist town, and even way back when, I could sense that some of the Canadians really weren't all that enamoured with American visitors in the manner of how they identified us, with more than less negative connotations, as 'Yankees'. One can assume their negative feelings in that beautiful little Canadian town are compounded by all the reckless attacks on their nation by sitting our U.S. President.

On a side note addressing a different Trump subject matter regarding federal government firings of probationary federal employees, back in April 2023, I was offered a entry-level customer-service tax collection position with the IRS. At the time my dear wife was not feeling well, so after heavy consideration, I decided to not accept the offer of employment so I could be near her at a moments notice, and continued with my employment at the Amazon warehouse in Shelby Twp. Mi..

As I informed you prior, Sharon passed away the very next month in May, and I continued working at Amazon. If I would have accepted that IRS position, there would be a good chance that on Monday I'd be filing for State of Michigan unemployment benefits...instead, by the Grace of our Good Lord, I am able to report for my hourly associate position at my Amazon workplace...Praise God, with no doubt, my Guardian Angel was spiritually directing my decision back then, I'm absolutely certain of that.

Yesterday, on St. Valentine's Day, it was the 21st month anniversary of Sharon's passing....I had a mass said at my local Catholic parish in Dryden, Mi. and attended Friday morning mass...and enjoyed a beautiful day with my dear married friend Linda Kay, whom I have known since 1983, meeting her at her first job freshout of high school at the local paint store, and I went visiting and tagging along on her interior design jobs, and we finished the evening with her dear husband joining us for dinner at Romeo Family Diner...it was beautiful day and I know my dear wife was riding along right besides us!

BTW, Linda's Polish grandparents and family members from Hamtramck were also highly respected professional painters who were often contracted to do the painting & decorating at many of the Catholic Churches in Detroit proper back in the early-to-mid 20th century. I wouldn't be surprised if they probably had met your family members who did painting somewhere along the way.

I'm half Canadian and have to go to a Celebration of Life for my cousin at the end of March. Her sister told me that some of my relatives are going to have some things to say to me. Unreal. My own family. And I didn't even vote for him

Dear Heather, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your cousin. The last visit I made to Ontario prior to COVID was for a celebration of life. These are unprecedented times. Stay strong and positive. xo

Trump insults our friends and neighbors, and plays footsie with our enemies.

Republicans refuse to face this self-evident fact.

Canadians, realize that this monster had only the slimmest of margins to push his fat keister over a much more qualified candidate. And we Democrats are fighting him.

Really appreciate this - the view from up here is unfortunately very bleak at the moment. One can only hope wiser minds prevail.
